ABSTRACT

GrainGenes, the international database for genetic and genomic data about Triticeae species, was extensively redesigned in 2004.  As a result it is now much easier to use, both for getting a quick answer to a simple question and for mining the data for new information.  Examples of improvements include the new "Marker" report, combining all information about a locus and its corresponding probe, gene, and related loci having alternate names.  New "Quick Queries" to extract particular tailored datasets are being created ongoingly.  Besides the GrainGenes database itself, there have been recent updates of information available in various areas of the GrainGenes website, including Triticeae EST-SSRs (TESC), the Genoplante/INRA Wheat SSR Club, and Triticeae Repeats (TREP).  Under development is a database to help correlate genotyping (alleles of molecular markers) and phenotyping (nursery) data.
