A mild and dry winter allowed earlier than normal planting in 1999. Heading was similar to 1998 due to cool weather in June. High temperatures and humidity during late June and early July along with moderate crown rust infections caused a reduction in yield and test weights. Bird damage also caused a random yield loss.
