Symptoms
Attacks foliage and heads of wheat grown under irrigated and high rainfall conditions. White, cottony patches initially form on upper surfaces of lower leaves that can spread to all aerial portions of the plant. Patches turn dull gray or brown with age and develop dark fruiting bodies that appear as dark specks. Dense stands, heavy nitrogen fertilization, lush growth, high humidity and cool temperatures favor disease development. Persists from season-to- season on infested wheat residue.
