SUBJECT:

Call for papers - 2002 National Wheat Industry Research Forum

One of the goals of the National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG) is to organize an annual convention that affords the wheat industry, in it's entirety, an opportunity to share information, ideas and visions. This exchange of information and ideas benefits all those involved. Toward this end, a National Wheat Industry Research Forum was initiated in 1998. The Forum is jointly planned and coordinated by the Wheat Industry Resource Committee (WIRC - a group of extension and industry cereal specialists from across the nation) and the NAWG. Wheat growers, researchers, extension and industry personnel are brought together to share information about wheat production and marketing in the United States and the world.

Thanks to the success of the past four years, plans are underway for the fifth National Wheat Industry Research Forum to be held in conjunction with the Wheat Industry Conference at Disney's Coronado Springs Hotel in Orlando, Florida. The Forum will be held on Jan. 16-17, 2002 and will include both oral and poster presentations. Wheat Industry Conference dates are Jan. 13-18 with general sessions and a trade show Jan. 16th-18th. Additional program detail will be provided later.

Four half-day, oral presentation sessions are planned for Jan. 17. Concurrent sessions will be held in the morning and afternoon. Topics will be farm bill issues, emerging technologies and products, biotechnology issues, and an overview of end use qualities of the major wheat market classes. If you have information on one of these topics that you are interested in sharing, please indicate that you would like to do an oral presentation on the paper registration form. Only a limited number of slots are available for oral presentations, therefore the Forum planning committee reserves the right to schedule submitted oral presentations as poster presentations if needed. Oral presentations will be selected to represent as broad an information base as possible.

Poster presentations can be on any topic related to wheat - production, processing, marketing, government policy, shipping, handling, breeding, genetics, etc. Posters will be displayed during the general session dates of Jan. 16-18 with a specific poster viewing session early the morning of Jan. 16. Abstracts will be printed in a Forum proceedings that will be available at the Forum and later posted to the NAWG web site. Proceedings abstracts are to be submitted via email to Ron Madl rmadl@oznet.ksu.edu in Microsoft Word format following the guidelines provided.

Individuals may be lead author on only two papers. They may be co-author on an unlimited number of papers. In order to participate in the Forum, presenters must register for the NAWG meeting. A reduced registration fee is offered to lead authors. If you register before December 1, 2001, the fee will be $75. After December 1, full registration ($130) will be charged. Registration information will be available on the Wheat World web site in fall 2001.

If you plan to present a paper at the Forum, please prepare and submit the attached registration form by Sept. 4, 2001. All authors must also submit an abstract by Nov. 16, 2001, so that a proceedings can be prepared, printed and distributed at the meeting.

Hotel registration information for Disney's Coronado Springs Hotel in Orlando is also attached.

Please pass this message on to others whom you think may be interested in participation. The Forum is an excellent opportunity to meet with growers, your peers and others with a keen interest in the American wheat industry and to share ideas that will successfully spur the industry into the next millennium.

We hope to see you at the Forum!

Presentation Guidelines for the 2002 National Wheat Industry Forum

Your audience will be a diverse group - growers, technical representatives from an array of support industries, government officials and your peers. Many will not be familiar with the presentation format commonly used in scientific meetings, hence, both oral presentations and posters should have high visual appeal and perhaps be slightly less technical than a presentation you would share with your peers. The grower audience is our primary target.

Oral presentations will be given in small meeting rooms with standard audiovisual equipment. Please indicate the type of equipment needed on your registration form. Standard Velcro 4x8 foot display boards will be provided for posters. Display tables and electrical outlets are available if needed in conjunction with a poster. Phone connections will not be available, therefore any computer-based presentation must be self-contained. Please indicate needed materials on the attached poster registration form. A proceedings will be printed and distributed at the meeting. Your contribution will be printed in the proceedings exactly as we receive it from you. We will not edit papers. Your presentation must be submitted as a Microsoft Word file via email to Ron Madl by November 16, 2001 (rmadl@oznet.ksu.edu). All tables and figures should be embedded in the submitted file. You will receive confirmation that your contribution was received and that it could or could not be printed. Proceedings contributions must be three (3) pages or less. Half to single page abstracts are preferred by many grower readers. Please follow these proceedings guidelines.
