POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE position, funded by the USDA-Biotechnology Risk Assessment Grants Program is available to a highly motivated and qualified applicant beginning in September 2004 in the Laboratory of Plant Molecular Physiology, Agronomy Department, IFAS, University of Florida http://agronomy.ifas.ufl.edu/Altpeter.HTML.

Our research uses efficient genetic transformation protocols for grasses (Mol. Breeding 6: 519-528) and cereals (Mol. Breeding 8: 295-309) for the dissection of traits and crop improvement (Plant Molecular Biology (articles in advance), Plant Journal 26: 265-274, Nature Biotechnology 14: 1155-1159, Journal of Plant Physiology 158: 521-528).

Job Description: The postdoctoral research associate will focus on the development and comparative evaluation of strategies to support containment of transgenes in cross pollinating grasses. This includes vector construction, generation of transgenic grasses, molecular characterization of transgenic grasses and analysis of gene flow under controlled environment and field conditions.

Qualifications: Essential criteria for appointment include extensive postdoctoral experience in plant molecular biology and a working knowledge of plant breeding / genetics, good verbal and written communication skills in English, a record of publication in peer reviewed scientific journals, evidence of ability to successfully complete projects, demonstrated experience in working as part of a team. Experience in plant transformation and plant breeding is also desirable.
