POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Kansas State University Position: Research Associate
Location: Department of Plant Pathology
Appointment: Term appointment ending 6/06/05, renewable upon Available: September 15, 2004 Responsibilities: Job responsibilities on this three-year project will include exploring a novel transgenic approach for nematode resistance using RNA interference. Research will entail extensive use of molecular biology, plant transformation and bioassays. Research associate will help coordinate research efforts of other team members.
Qualifications: Successful candidate must have a Ph.D. with a strong
background in plant biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or related
field. Experience with molecular biology techniques {e.g.: gene cloning,
DNA and RNA isolation and analyses, site-directed mutagenesis techniques,
genomic and cDNA library construction/screening, and PCR techniques
(including designing and using degenerate primers), southern and northern
analyses} and transgene analysis are necessary. Experience working with
small RNA molecules preferred. The successful candidate must be able to
design and conduct independent experiments with a strong commitment towards
goals. Excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to
work well in a team-based/collaborative research atmosphere are essential.
Experience in crop transformation is a plus but not essential.
