Be involved in delivering world class science through CSIRO's National Research Flagships and other key initiatives. Post Doctoral Fellows will be supported with generous personal development opportunities for a period of 3 years. The position below is one of 16 new research areas for which PDF applications are being sought. http://recruitment.csiro.au/asp/job_list.asp Positional-based cloning of genes for salt tolerance in wheat Novel sources of major genes conferring salt tolerance to wheat have been identified in Plant Industry. These are Nax1 and Nax2, genes for sodium exclusion found in an unusual ancient durum wheat. The project will focus on the isolation of the genes to complement conventional breeding strategies to improve tolerance of cereals to soil salinity. Plants carrying recombinant chromosomes within the Nax gene regions will form the basis for developing a high resolution map and the positional based cloning of candidate genes.
