| Research associate, bioinformatics and data management
POSITION A postdoctoral position is available in management of bioinformatic data for a plant molecular-breeding project. A multi-institutional USDA-funded CAP initiative aims to discover and exploit QTLs controlling complex rice traits in assorted genetic materials. Raw and processed genetic and phenotypic data will be maintained in project and public databases and shared with other public databases. RESPONSIBILITIES The appointee will construct databases and WWW interfaces, manage submission and release of data, and assist in the analysis and planning of genetic experiments including marker-assisted breeding. The long-range goal of the lab is the development of computational tools for effective analysis and application of QTL studies. QUALIFICATIONS Ph.D. in a relevant biological or analytical science, with special preference given to expertise in molecular and statistical genetics and/or crop breeding Experience in designing and building relational databases Facility with popular programming languages, WWW technologies, and genomics tools Preparedness to supervise students and technicians Good oral and written English communication skills TERMS The position will be of one to four years duration, contingent on satisfactory progress and continued funding.
