ROLE STATEMENT FOR THE POSITION The major role of the Research Scientist (Molecular Plant Physiology - Horsham) will be to conduct innovative research on mechanism associated with abiotic stress tolerance in wheat to facilitate the development of wheat germplasm. As a member of a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, the incumbent will perform a wide range of duties that will lead to a better understanding of the abiotic stress tolerance mechanism in cereal crops in particular wheat. The incumbent is responsible for selection and planning of field operations. Review literature, write progress reports, make presentations at professional meetings and draft manuscripts. The incumbent is also expected to contribute towards the development of research projects consistent with the interests of PIRVic - Molecular Plant Breeding.

MANDATORY PRE-REQUISITE JOB REQUIREMENTS An appropriate degree in Agricultural Science, Science or an equivalent qualification with post-graduate training to PhD level in molecular plant physiology.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
 - Extensive knowledge of classical plant physiology (field and greenhouse; whole plant, organ, tissue), proteomics, and metabolomics and with experience in applying these disciplines to germplasm research and development for abiotic stress tolerance relevant to the Australian grains industries.
- Proven verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated record of scientific publication and a proven ability to develop, implement and complete research projects.
- Demonstrated experience in co-ordinating, supervising and instructing scientific and technical staff in laboratory and glasshouse activities for a large complex/multi-discipline team under minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated experience in interacting with, and coordinating multi-discipline collaborations, at a national and international level.
- Proven ability to attract external funding to support a research program.
