Responsibilities:
In this position, the successful candidate will be involved in large scale analyses of plant breeding data to support Monsanto's global breeding effort. Using phenotypic and molecular data from existing centralized data bases, the successful candidate will develop generalized procedures to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of Monsanto's selection and testing programs at different stages of product development and to optimize product placement strategies. The selected candidate will be able to: -Evaluate the impact and cost effectiveness of new technologies, including, but not restricted to, molecular marker information, on the breeding development pipeline. -Develop and test enhanced methods of predicting the performance of populations, lines, and hybrids. -Provide solid interpretation and recommendations based on experiment data analysis to drive improvements to the existing breeding practices. -Consult and provide support to software developers and other IT specialists to transform prototype analyses and decision methods into production applications for use by crop breeders. -Participate in cross-functional collaborative teams with Breeding, Genomics, Biotech, and Trait Integration as appropriate. -Provide written and oral presentations of methods, results, conclusions, and recommendations to peer and management groups. -Contribute to Monsanto's freedom to operate and strengthen its intellectual property position in this arena through adequate record keeping, invention disclosure, patent application and/or publication in the scientific literature.

Responsibilities:
In this post-doctoral position, the successful candidate will be involved in data analysis and project coordination to support our Global Renessen Corn Breeding Group in the application of molecular markers to improve corn for quality traits (for more information on Renessen, please visit www.renessen.com ). Some examples of the tasks to be performed are: -Design and propose breeding strategies to identify, understand, and leverage genomic regions associated to quality traits. -Support the execution of these strategies, and others already being implemented. -Help breeders in the design and analysis of special field experiments. -Perform or refine the statistical analysis of experimental results already available. -Interact with other Monsanto teams (Genomics, Biotech, Trait Integration) on projects of common interest. -Analyze, interpret, and present results to peers and management. -Contribute to secure Monsanto's freedom to operate and strengthen its intellectual property position in this arena through adequate record keeping, invention disclosure, patent application, and/or publication in the scientific literature (for examples see: Genetics 168:2141-2155, United States Patent Application 20040025202). -Visit with and train or present results to co-workers and other locations in or outside of North America.
