Associate in Research, Plant Pathology

Washington State University, Department of Plant Pathology, Pullman, WA -- An Associate in Research is sought to assist with laboratory, field, and greenhouse research directed at understanding the epidemiology of and improving host resistance to soilborne fungal plant pathogens of winter wheat. Position responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to: laboratory analysis of plant tissue for enzyme activity; detection of fungi in plant tissue with polymerase chain reaction; isolation of fungi from plant tissue and maintenance of cultures; initiation and maintenance of greenhouse experiments including disease evaluation; establishment, maintenance, and harvest of field plots, including application of pesticides as necessary; training and supervision of temporary employees; development of experimental designs and collection, summarization, and statistical analysis of data in conjunction with the principal investigator.

Qualifications:
Required: A Master's Degree in Plant Pathology with experience in laboratory, field, and greenhouse methods of research. Candidates must be able to work independently.
Highly Desired: Experience with soilborne plant pathogens, molecular biological techniques, statistics, and/or plant breeding. The successful candidate will be required to obtain a State of Washington Public Pesticide Applicator's License within 6 months of employment.

Availability:
The position is temporary, 12 month, full-time. Initial appointment is for 2 years and is annually renewable and dependent upon continued funding. Salary range is $32,000-35,000/year and includes medical benefits.
