Research Associate – Wheat Breeding and Genetics. A research associate position is available within the Soil and Crop Sciences Department at Colorado State University. The position is a full-time, twelve- month, administrative professional (non tenure-track) appointment with 100% research responsibilities. Renewal past one year is contingent upon availability of funds and satisfactory progress and performance. The successful applicant will coordinate Russian wheat aphid resistance screening and molecular marker assisted selection activities. Associated activities include research plot preparation, planting, maintenance, and harvest; field and laboratory data collection, summarization, and analysis; operation and maintenance of field plot equipment, in collaboration with existing project personnel; hiring and supervision of hourly and seasonal employees; and collaboration with graduate students on research projects.

Minimum B.S. degree in plant breeding/genetics, agronomy, horticulture, or a related biological sciences field is required; M.S. degree is preferred. Interest and ability to work outdoors and to work in wheat field plots under normal conditions is required. Demonstrated interest or experience with applied plant breeding, familiarity with scientific research procedures, effective written and oral communication skills in English, effective interpersonal skills, and computer literacy are required. Basic experience with molecular biology laboratory techniques (e.g., DNA extraction, PCR, molecular marker analysis, etc.) is preferred.
