POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT IN WHEAT GENOMICS

POSITION: Assistant/Associate Professor, Wheat Genomics, 12-month tenure-eligible position, 90% research, 10% teaching

RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop a strong wheat genomics research program. Take a leadership role in analysis of the wheat genome and in relating this information to wheat plant biology, productivity, and value-added traits. The successful applicant will be a key player leveraging wheat genomics research for crop improvement in collaborative projects. The successful applicant will teach at least one graduate-level course in plant genomics, provide graduate student training, secure extramural funding, and publish research results. The successful candidate must be able to work in multi-cultural settings and create an environment that fosters diversity and collegiality.

RESOURCES: The KSU Department of Plant Pathology includes faculty with strong research programs in the genetics of host-plant resistance and plant-microbe interactions. It houses facilities for gene expression analysis, structural genomics and plant transformation as well as the internationally renowned Wheat Genetic and Genomic Resources Center. The Department also is home to a USDA- ARS Plant Science Unit devoted to wheat genetics, genomics, physiology, and pest/pathogen molecular biology. Wheat breeding, physiology, and grain end-use research are carried out in the neighboring Agronomy and Grain Science Departments.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Required (Assistant Professor): Ph.D. in plant genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry or a related field. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated experience in plant molecular biology or structural/ functional genomics. Preferred: Post-doctoral experience in plant genomics or molecular biology. Teaching experience at the college level; demonstrated experience in publishing and obtaining extramural funding and experience leading or working as part of an interdisciplinary research team.

Required (Associate Professor): Same qualifications as for Assistant Professor with additional experience of four or more years at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, or equivalent experience in government, industry or international institutions.
