| Assistant Professor, Extension Specialist
This is a 12 month, tenure track position with an 80%
extension and 20% research appointment in the Dept. of Plant Pathology
at Kansas State University. The position is available after October 1,
2006. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a strong
extension education program concentrating on wheat pathology, other
small grains and alfalfa. Extensive in state travel is required.
Responsibilities include monitoring wheat disease incidence,
distribution, severity, resistance and losses and transmit this
information to the agricultural industry, extension colleagues,
researchers and administrators. Participate in the disease diagnostic
laboratory and the Great Plains Diagnostic Network. Develop practical
wheat and alfalfa disease management information through meetings,
extension publications, news media and web based technologies.
Establish a strong applied research program concentrating on wheat
pathology. A PhD in Plant Pathology or a related discipline is required
along with effective oral and written communication skills, the ability
and desire to work in a diverse and multicultural setting, and the
ability to assess and understand the needs of the Kansas agricultural
industry. Other requirements include training in disease diagnosis,
including the use of serological and DNA techniques and in the
management of plant disease as well as a demonstrated ability in
conducting and publishing research. Previous experience in extension or
Great Plains crop production systems; interest in developing distance
education delivery methods; ability to communicate with clientele in
written and spoken Spanish are preferred, but not required. Salary: Commensurate with training and experience. Closing date: Applicant screening will begin on August 15, 2006 and continue until
