Job description: This position will provide nursery support to the Genetic Discovery group for the observation and phenotyping of experiments as well as with the planning, preparation and coordination of experiments run at other locations. The associate will also coordinate field experiments including keeping track of deadlines, compiling and submitting row requests, seed and planting preparations, pollinations, phenotyping, harvesting, and all the associated computer systems work.

Responsibilities: Responsible for the planning, deployment and execution of nurseries and field experiments in support of gene discovery (map-based cloning, QTL identification) projects for maize. Specific duties include: planting, collection of phenotypic data, development of trait assays, tissue sampling, pollinating, harvesting, shipping and storage of seeds and reporting of results. Integrate multiple projects from several research groups and initiatives. Develop and establish proficiency with computer programs related to nursery and field experiment planning and organization. Organizes supervises and trains temporary employees, ensuring work is performed in a safe and efficient manner. Willingness to work additional hours and weekends during seasonal peak task periods and to travel to assist with winter nursery activity and data collection at other research location is required.

Education requirements: Bachelor's Degree in genetics or the plant sciences required. Knowledge of plant molecular biology and/or plant pathology is desirable.
