POSITION TITLE: Assistant Professor

DEPARTMENT: Plant Sciences, North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND

DESCRIPTION: This is a 12-month tenure track position located in the Department of Plant Sciences at North Dakota State University (NDSU) with 85% research and 15% teaching responsibilities. The position will be filled at the assistant professor level. The individual will conduct basic and applied research on the biochemical components, particularly carbohydrate chemistry, and physical properties of Hard Red Spring (HRS) and Hard White Spring (HWS) wheat as they relate to the quality of end-products. The successful candidate is expected to provide leadership in the outreach activities as it relates to HRS and HWS wheat programs. It is expected that research conducted will lead to published research in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national/international scientific meetings. The individual hired will teach an existing graduate course in bread making and/or develop new courses within the mission and scope of the department. He/she is also expected to advise graduate students, train graduate students in collaboration with other faculty members, and aggressively seek both competitive and noncompetitive extramural funding for research programs.

Research laboratory and equipment are available along with technical support. Cooperation with other scientists within the department, university and at other institutions is expected.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. from an accredited institution in cereal science, food science, biochemistry, chemistry/engineering, plant sciences or related discipline. The person hired must have a commitment to quality teaching with effective English oral and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Academic or research experience in wheat products, carbohydrate chemistry, university teaching, and grant writing.
