Seeking candidate with experience in the interactions of
viruses, insect
vectors, and host plants.
Major Duties:
Incumbent is a Research Plant Pathologist in the Grain, Forage, and
Bioenergy Research Unit, University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Nebraska,
with an
overall mission to improve the productivity, stability of production,
and
value of grain, forage and bioenergy crops. The is an independent
co-investigator on a research project entitled 'Wheat Virus Gene
Function
and Population Biology' aimed at reducing yield losses due to virus
diseases
of wheat and other cereals. Works independently using virology,
molecular
biology, genetic, and biochemical approaches to determine the
mechanisms by
which viruses induce disease in plants and applies this knowledge to
improve
virus resistance in wheat.
Qualifications:
Your education and experience will be evaluated against all
qualification

Basic Requirements:
Degree:
plant pathology; or a related scientific discipline that included
at least 20 semester hours in basic botany or plant science, and 10
semester
hours in plant pathology.

Specialized Experience is experience which has equipped you
with the
following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - 'KSAs' required to perform
the
duties of this position:
1. Knowledge of virus/vector interaction or virus/host
interaction.
2. Knowledge of plant virology and plant molecular biology.
3. Skill in designing and conducting research, statistical design and
analysis, interpreting data and reporting results in peer-reviewed
scientific journals.

Research scientists have open-ended promotion potential.
Research

positions are evaluated periodically. The grade level is limited only

the individual's demonstrated ability to perform research of recognized

by a peer review panel.
