POSITION TITLE: Assistant Professor, two year term position
CLOSING DATE: Screening will begin as soon as possible and remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
DESCRIPTION: This position consists of 78% research responsibility and 22% teaching. The major duties of this individual for research include identification of disease resistance gene orthologs in common bean, development of molecular markers, PCR optimization, analysis of molecular markers in breeding lines, mapping disease resistance genes, preparing manuscripts for publication, and mentoring undergraduate researchers associated with the project. The position also requires teaching eight credits per academic year which may include general biology, molecular biology, genetics, or microbiology. Continued employment beyond the two year fixed position is contingent on department need, satisfactory job performance and funding.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a) a Ph.D. in genetics, molecular biology or a related field; research experience in plant molecular genetics, b) previous experience in molecular marker development, PCR optimization and trouble shooting, c) ability to communicate effectively in writing and research publications, d) prior undergraduate teaching experience, and e) ability to work in a research team-oriented environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A preferred candidate possesses a) experience performing analysis of plants genomic database using bioinformatic tools, b) experience performing statistical analysis (e.g., SAS or similar software), c) research experience in plant pathology and disease phenotyping in the greenhouse and field grown material, and d) an interest in teaching wide range of biology courses.
