| The University of Idaho seeks a plant breeder at the level of
assistant/associate professor to assume responsibility for the wheat
breeding
and genetics program based at the Aberdeen Research and Extension
Center in
Aberdeen, Idaho. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and
experience.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and conduct an innovative and comprehensive research (80%), teaching and advising (15%) and service (5%) program emphasizing wheat breeding and genetics. Acquisition of extramural funds and collaborative work is expected. Additional responsibilities include the development of an undergraduate/graduate course in a plant science related topic of interest to the candidate to be taught alternate years via distance learning media and advise, supervise and/or direct graduate students. Participation in professional meetings and publication in refereed journals is expected. Required: An earned doctorate by September 1, 2006 in plant breeding, genetics, crop science or a plant science related field; evidence of scholarly contributions. Desired: Advanced training and experience in the areas of plant breeding, molecular marker technology, molecular biology, and/or biometrics; evidence of ability to obtain external funding; evidence of excellent interpersonal, written, and electronic communication skills; ability/experience in advising graduate students; ability/experience in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level; and participation in professional activities.
