Faculty Position in Wheat Breeding and Genetics

Location: Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, Washington State University, Pullman, WA 99164-6420

Available: June 1, 2008

Rank: Assistant or Associate Crop Scientist / Assistant or Associate Professor, Full time, 12 month tenure track with an 85% research and 15 % teaching appointment

Responsibilities: Research responsibilities include development of a strong field and laboratory breeding program directed towards the release of high quality wheat cultivars. The appointee is expected to utilize and develop novel breeding approaches for wheat improvement, including, when necessary, introgression of proprietary and possibly transgenic traits. The successful candidate will obtain extramural funding, train graduate students and publish research results. Active participation with the wheat research community including, but not limited to, state funded and USDA plant breeders and geneticists is expected. The appointee will interact closely with producers and private industry. Academic responsibilities include, but are not limited to, designing and teaching a course in plant breeding or genetics.

Required Qualifications: 1) Ph.D. in plant breeding, genetics, or a related field by the time of initial appointment 2) Excellent communication skills in written and oral English 3) A commitment to advancing diversity (racial, ethnic, gender, age, disabilities) in the work place Desired Qualifications: 1) Demonstrated scholarship and experience in applied plant breeding and 1) Demonstrated scholarship and experience in applied plant breeding and molecular genetics 2) Demonstrated success in grant acquisition, staff supervision, and collaborative research 3) Demonstrated success in teaching

Salary: Commensurate with training and experience. Washington State University provides health insurance and retirement benefits.
