Associate Scientist - Assay Development and Validation

You will develop and validate new markers predictive of trait performance for a variety and trait improvement projects. The Associate Scientist will also be responsible for transfer of reliable assays to production genotyping laboratories for use in marker assisting breeding projects; participating in the definition and planning of assay development projects; working with Genetic Information Managers, Genomic Scientists and Native Trait project leaders in validation of QTLs and candidate genes.

Qualifications include MS degree in Biotechnology, Genetics, Plant Breeding or related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of related experience; strong knowledge of molecular marker technologies and sequence analysis tools; understanding of genetics, conventional breeding and molecular marker development and marker-assisted plant breeding strategies. Qualified candidates will be able to work well in a team environment, have strong time management and multi-tasking skills, and strong computer skills in MS Office. Experience with basic PCR based technologies, sequence analysis tools, and/or genetic mapping tools/software such as MAPMAKER, GMENDEL or JOINMAP are essential.
