Role purpose

This position is designed for transgenic trait research in crops, with emphasis on plant protein biochemistry and molecular biology.  Responsibilities will also include working on multiple technical teams and supporting project needs.  The position requires an in-depth knowledge of plant protein biochemistry and use of molecular biology. It demands an adaptable and innovative attitude towards applying research skills to product development. A key challenge for the person taking up this role will be to understand how project management works to deliver timely results.

Knowledge, experience & capabilities

Critical knowledge
A Ph.D. degree in Plant Protein Biochemistry or related field is required. Candidates for this position must have broad knowledge of plant proteins with a focus on enzymes that are associated with metabolic pathways. An interest in and knowledge of agricultural biotechnology is necessary in addition to accomplishments in all aspects of protein work.

Critical experience
  • Worked in a team environment
  • Relevant laboratory experience working with transgenic plants and traits is a plus.

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities
  • Familiarity with various state-of-the-art methods for plant protein biochemistry studies
  • Expertise in plant protein extraction, purification, analysis and characterization
  • Chromatography skills such as HPLC and FPLC
  • Ability to work with protein complexes is a plus
  • Molecular biology expertise especially as it applies to protein structure/function analysis
  • Excellent troubleshooting, experimental design and data-analysis skills
