Research Plant Pathologist

Research Plant Pathologist (GS-12/13, salary range $65,315 - $100,976): The USDA-ARS Cereal Crops Research Unit located at the Red River Valley Agricultural Research Center in Fargo, ND is seeking a full-time, permanent Research Plant Pathologist to conduct research on molecular plant-microbe interactions in wheat and other small grains.

The goal is to provide basic knowledge that will facilitate our understanding of the molecular mechanisms and events associated with resistant/susceptible interactions, defense responses, pathogenicity, etc., and ultimately to use this knowledge to improve disease resistance.

Specific lines of research could include characterization of defense response events and pathways, identification and molecular characterization of interactions between host and pathogen gene products, and/or biochemical characterization of pathogenicity/virulence factors (eg. toxins) and their mode of action.

The incumbent will work independently, but will coordinate research activities with other ARS scientists in the unit.

Excellent research facilities are available in the Northern Crop Science Laboratory, located on the campus of North Dakota State University. Opportunity exists for adjunct appointment with NDSU.
