Two PhD Positions
IPK GATERSLEBEN

The mission of the IPK Gatersleben, a Leibniz Institute, is to conduct basic and applied research in the area of plant genetics and crop plant research. The institute's activities focus on the key research areas Genetic Diversity of Crop Plants, Dynamics of Plant Genomes, and Integrative Biology of Plant Performance.

The Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK) offers

Two PhD Positions in Genome Diversity and Association Genetics of Barley
(reference number: 20/03/08)

in the research group Genome Diversity, Genebank Department for a period of up to 3 years, starting from May 2008. The candidates will be involved in ongoing research programmes on Barley Genetic Diversity and Population/ Association Genetics. Based on high-throughput genotyping and large-scale phenotyping of barley germplasm, the potential of association genetics for barley crop improvement will be evaluated. The candidates should hold a Diploma or Masters degree in Biology, Agricultural Sciences or related fields.

We seek highly motivated, ambitious PhD students, who are willing to participate in the supervision of field trials, perform marker analyses and have a strong interest in plant genetics, biostatistics/bioinformatics. The incumbents will be able to work in an international research environment and enroll in a competitive and attractive graduate program.

The IPK in Gatersleben (http://www.ipk-gatersleben.de ) is one of the world's premier sites committed to basic and applied research in Genetic Diversity of Crop Plants, Dynamics of Plant Genomes, and Integrative Biology of Plant Performance with special emphasis on the crop plant species barley (Hordeum vulgare). The institute currently hosts about 500 employees and provides state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and bioinformatics resources.
