Appointment: 100 % Extension

General Duties and Responsibilities: The applicant will work closely with County Extension Agents, other extension specialists, research faculty and industry at the local, state and national level to develop and implement high quality educational programs, applied field research as well as conventional and electronic publications to inform the public on issues related to the sustainable production of small grains and cool-season oil-seed crops. The incumbent will provide leadership with regional, state and national commodity groups, serving as a liaison with the industry; linking research and Extension programming with the needs of the small grains and oil-seed industries. Duties will include a significant travel schedule, field research, numerous educational meetings of varying formats, creation of publications and other scholarly work to assist Texas producers in adopting profitable and sustainable small grains and oil-seed production systems. The incumbent will provide leadership to team efforts in to developing educational resources and programming to advance small grains production in the state of Texas. While the position is supported by departmental funds, the incumbent will be expected to enhance programming capacity through the acquisition of external funding.

Administrative Relationships: The specialist will report to the Head of the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences through the Associate Head and Extension Program Leader. The specialist will potentially supervise student workers, graduate students, Extension Assistants or Associates and/or Extension Program Specialists as external funding becomes available.

Qualifications:
Required:
- An earned Ph.D. in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science or similar field.
- Excellent and demonstrated oral, written and electronic communication skills.
- Field research experience with production systems in agronomic crops

Preferred:
- Field research and/or extension experience with small grains and/or cool season oilseed production
- A documented background in the acquisition of external grant funds
- Experience in extension education
