The School of Plant, Environmental, and Soil Sciences at Louisiana State University is seeking an outstanding applicant to join the Coastal Plants Project to pursue an M.S. in Coastal Science beginning fall semester, 2009. The research project will focus on collection and evaluation of genetic diversity for cold tolerance in black mangrove populations of Louisiana. The Louisiana Sea Grant (LSG) College Program will administer this assistantship with funding provided by The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (LDNR). The Coastal Science Assistantship Program will provide stipend of $25,000 per annum up to three years. The prospective graduate student recruited under this program will gain invaluable practical experience related to coastal restoration activity by completing 240 hours of internship with the Coastal Restoration Division of the LDNR at mutually convenient times during their pursuit of the master's degree. The program will both expose students to Coastal Restoration activities and provide a potential avenue for recruitment of new LDNR personnel.
