Molecular Geneticist/Informaticist Position
SCRI-Dundee Scotland, UK

Salary: GBP 26,609 - 29,566

SCRI is Scotland's leading Institute for research on plants and their interactions with the environment, particularly in managed ecosystems. Our mission is to conduct excellent research in plant and environmental sciences. Our vision is to deliver innovative products, knowledge and services that enrich the life of the community and address the public goods of environmental sustainability, high quality and healthy food.

A vacancy is available within the Genetics Program at SCRI to conduct an association mapping study on elite barley germplasm focusing on phenotypic variation in characters related to cell wall composition and structure and relate the phenotypic information to an eQTL study to be conducted on the same genetic material. Data analysis will be conducted in collaboration with a Statistician also to be appointed to the project. The postholder will join a group of up to 10 researchers and technicians in both the University of Dundee (Prof. Claire Halpin) and SCRI (Prof. Robbie Waugh) (co-located at Invergowrie) who are focusing on manipulating barley cell wall composition to understand and maximize potential yields of cellulosic ethanol.

The post holder will have to work with plants in the field and glasshouse, and conduct several types of phenotypic (including biochemical) and molecular analysis. A second phase will likely involve the molecular identification, validation and manipulation of genes that influence the phenotypes examined.

The appointee should have a Ph.D. in Genetics / molecular biology / quantitative genetics (incl. statistics / bioinformatics).
