The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Cereal Crops Research Unit in Madison, Wisconsin is seeking a POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, (Research Plant Molecular Biologist) for a TWO YEAR APPOINTMENT. Salary is commensurate with experience ($56,411 - $73,329 per annum), plus benefits. Recent Ph.D. is required (less than 3 years). Citizenship restrictions apply (see web site, below). The Research Associate will plan, conduct and report research on molecular mechanisms controlling the expression of hydrolytic enzyme genes in germinating malting barley. Research will focus on the regulation of gibberellin hormone responses. Studies will also involve interactions with ABA and endosperm factors. The successful candidate will therefore have a strong background in molecular biology, seed physiology and enzymology. Facilities and equipment are available for qRT-PCR, biolistic transient gene expression assays, fluorescence microscopy and other techniques that may be needed. The applied aspect of this research will be the development of predictive indicators of malting quality.
