A Visiting Scholar/Research Associate position in Plant Science Department at South Dakota State University will be available in December of 2009. This is a non-tenure track, 100% research position with 12-month initial appointment and renewability depending upon performance. Responsibilities are to conduct research on projects that support the development of improved varieties and innovation of elite germplasm in soybean, such as characterization of quality traits (protein, oil and modified fatty acids) and/or pest/disease resistance, identification of molecular markers associated with target traits and application of novel technologies to variety improvement. The successful candidate will be a highly self-motivated team player. He or she will work independently and corporately on and off campus, including experiment design and implement, data collection and analysis, result presentation and publication, and participate in grant proposal writing. Applicants should have a PhD in plant breeding and genetics or related fields, extensive training and hands-on experience in applied and basic research, experimental design and statistical analysis, QTL mapping and DNA marker application, laboratory experiments and field trials. Experience in soybean research and demonstrated ability in scientific publication will be plus. Effective verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
