The Crop and Soil Sciences Department at Michigan State University invites applications for a three-year postdoctoral research associate position as part of a collaborative project among breeders, geneticists, and socio-economists of Rosaceae crops (including apple, peach, sweet and tart cherries, and strawberry) involving eleven institutions in the U.S. and Plant Research International in the Netherlands (see: http://www.rosbreed.org). This project seeks to leverage existing genomic sequence data to build a marker-assisted breeding pipeline that will result in more efficient and rapid development of improved cultivars. The research associate will work together with the statistical team at Plant Research International and U.S. project partners to: carry out pedigree-based QTL analysis using dedicated QTL software developed by the Dutch team, including FlexQTLTM software; organize two workshops in pedigree based data analysis; and contribute to the identification of newly desired functionalities of the software. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding or a closely related field, extensive training and experience in statistical genetics and linkage analysis in particular, and experience with statistical packages such as Genstat, R, or SAS. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated team player who possesses excellent communication skills. Please send applications to Dr. Dechun Wang (ph: 1-517-355-0271 Ext. 1188) by E-mail at wangdech@msu.edu with a cover letter highlighting your qualifications, current CV, copies of transcripts from graduate schools, and contact information (phone number and E-mail address) of three references. Consideration of applications will begin on November 23, 2009 and will continue until the position is filled.
