The research group 'Crop Biodiversity
and Breeding Informatics' is
looking for a POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH
ASSOCIATE to work on a research
project on the genomic selection
of modern barley cultivars. The work
includes the development of
methods for genomic selection in barley
breeding to improve yield
and yield component traits. More specifically,
the tasks include
(i) the application of different methods for genomic
selection
(e.g., BLUP, Bayesian methods, machine learning) in breeding
value
estimation for field trial data and genotyping assays, (ii)
the
development of improved methods for genomic selection
in
self-fertilizing crops, and (iii) the comparison of breeding
value
estimation for different types of traits and with different
markers.
We are looking for highly motivated and creative
candidates with a
Ph. D. in quantitative genetics, bioinformatics,
statistics or plant
breeding with a strong interest in the
quantitative analysis of modern
genomic data. Practical experience
in the quantitative analysis of
genetic and phenotypic data with
statistical software such as R is
required. The position is funded
by the BARSELECT project, with involves
several academic partners
and breeding companies. For this reason, good
skills in team work,
self-organization and project coordination are
required.
In
Hohenheim, there is a critical mass of well-connected research
groups
in plant and animal breeding that work on current topics in
plant
genetics and breeding research. The University of Hohenheim
is located
on a beautiful campus in the South German city of
Stuttgart, which has a
very good cultural life and a nice
surrounding.
The position is available immediately and is
funded for three years and
paid according to the E13 TV-L

Please send your application (Cover
letter, CV, publications, a
short letter of motivation and research
interests, addresses of at
least two references) as a single PDF
document to Baerbel
