Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated individual to become an integral member of China vegetable R&D team. This is a superb opportunity to manage a trialing program in collaboration with a large, multidisciplinary global R&D teams to develop successful new vegetable hybrids. The preferred candidate should be conversant with crop management, breeding, physiology, soil science, agricultural chemistry, biotic and abiotic stress tolerance, field experimental design, data analysis, and resource prioritization. As a trialing lead you will have primary responsibilities of partnering with vegetable breeders to support individual program needs and work priorities ensuring that the trialing needs of the individual breeding programs are accomplished. The incumbent will maintain site responsibility partnerships to ensure efficient work flow and work load balancing. A significant amount of interaction and collaboration is expected with vegetable R&D team members, technology development, marketing and sales teams.
The Trialing Lead is responsible for all day-to-day operations, design and planning of the trialing program across China for all Vegetable R&D. This individual is critical to research implementation and will have the opportunity to work with cutting edge proprietary field research equipment, superior genetic material, and help drive effective yield testing programs. The successful candidate will have direct management responsibility of supervising the trialing officers across China and budget management. The vegetable trialing lead will directly interact with the vegetable breeding community and serve as a key member of China vegetable R&D team. This role offers the prospect to work with the world’s largest developer, grower and marketer of fruit and vegetable seeds. We lead the development of hybrids with state-of -the-art technologies and genetics that improve nutrition, boost crop yields, limit spoilage and reduce the need of chemicals.
Key responsibilities include:
Ensure that the pre-commercial materials in R&D are tested effectively.
Acquire and maintain facilities and equipment for effective and efficient functioning of all trialing programs.
Participate in the hiring and supervision of program support staff.
Ensure that site trialing officers and support staff is trained in all ESH procedures, regulatory and compliance protocols, and business conduct protocols.
Administer the recruiting, training, development and retention of personnel.
Manage the testing budget.
Qualifications:
Required Skills/Experiences:
Ph.D. in Plant Breeding, Agronomy, Physiology, or related field of study and 8+ years of significant people and project management in an agricultural-related position.
Broad knowledge of crop production, farming practices and supervisory experience.
Strong computer skills related to data acquisition, organization, and data analysis.
Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, and collaboration with others.
Excellent managerial and organizational skills in matrixed teams; ability to balance multiple tasks and achieve milestones.
Ability to work in a team-based environment with multidisciplinary teams; effective verbal communication skills.
Leadership capabilities within the technology community that can extend into other functional areas.
English and Chinese language fluency and good communication ability are necessary.
Desired Skills / Experience:
Good working knowledge of statistics and experimental design.
Vegetable farming experience.
Graduate education or working experience overseas.
Experience with farm equipment operation and repair.
