Permanent Category I Scientist Position: Research Genetics (Plants)

The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Plant Science Research Laboratory, Stillwater, Oklahoma is seeking  a CATEGORY I RESEARCH GENETICIST (PLANTS) for a PERMANENT APPOINTMENT at the GS-12 to GS-14 level grade.  Salary is commensurate with experience ($68,809 - $125,695 per annum) plus benefits.  The incumbent’s research will enhance wheat production and profitability through research to develop wheat germplasm for improved resistance to biotic stress.  The research assignment requires knowledge of Mendelian and quantitative genetics to evaluate and transfer selected genetic characteristics of cereal plants, ability to use classical plant breeding methodologies to develop improved cereal plant germplasm, knowledge to characterize genetic mechanisms of pest-insect resistance in plants, and ability to use molecular techniques and genomic approaches to isolate resistance genes.  Also desirable is practical knowledge of plant physiology, entomology, and plant transformation and regeneration systems.
