Monsanto is currently seeking a highly motivated Trait
Geneticist to
support the different crops in the Veg R& D
portfolio in India. The
primary role of a Trait Geneticist is to
identify genetic variation for
traits of interest, and tag
underlying genes with molecular markers for
improved breeding
efficiency. Trait Geneticists lead and participate in
cross
functional teams that identify and transfer loci
controlling
important traits to elite germplasm. The Trait
Geneticist will work with
the respective breeders to ensure
efficient use of markers in their
respective breeding
programs
Team members include plant breeders, pathologists,
cell and molecular
biologists, biochemists, physiologists,
statisticians, and marketing
specialists. These teams work
together to identify and develop new
vegetable products that bring
value to growers, processors, retailers
and
consumers.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and
genetic analysis to project teams focused on
strategic
traits.
- Exploit linkage, QTL, and association analysis to
identify and tag
loci of interest with molecular markers.

Develop populations, plan multi-location phenotypic trials with
internal collaborators, assure collection of accurate, high quality
trait information, analyze phenotypic and genetic data using
advanced
IT tools for tracking pedigrees, establishing
trials, storing and
analyzing data.
- Interpret and
communicate results to project stake-holders.
- Develop novel
technology-based breeding concepts to increase speed to
market, breeding efficiency and improve hybrid performance.

Drive deployment of new breeding technologies through collaboration
with breeders and communication or training on new tools or
workflows.
- Support Monsanto's freedom-to-operate by filing
invention disclosures
and assisting with patent
applications.
- Recruitment, training, development and retention
of research support
personnel.
