Job Title: Postdoctoral Research Assistant (in Barley Molecular Developmental Genetics)
College: College of Life Sciences
School: Life Sciences Research
Division: Plant Sciences
Grade: Grade 7 (£29,541 - £36,298)
Job Category: Research
Closing Date: 15 October 2013
We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic post-doctoral scientist to join Dr. Sarah McKim’s research group. The laboratory uses cutting edge techniques in crop molecular genetics to identify and functionally characterize specific transcription factors (TF) regulating agronomic traits in barley. The position is available for three years from 1st February 2014.
The post-holder will contribute to these aims in a BBSRC-funded project:
1) Define the environmental and genetic framework of a key TF controlling internode elongation,
2) Identify and functionally validate downstream targets of this TF,
3) Employ transgenic-based approaches to characterize the developmental contribution of related TF family members.
The ideal candidate must have technical mastery of molecular cloning, protein biochemistry (including ChIP) and gene expression techniques, in addition to experience in plant transgenics. Training in plant developmental biology and bioinformatics is highly desired. Candidates with strong publication records and superior writing and communication skills will be preferred. Applicants must be self-directed and thrive in an atmosphere that promotes independence and research leadership within a cohesive research team.
The post-holder will work alongside leaders in barley genetics and bioinformatics co-located with the McKim lab at the James Hutton Institute, in Dundee, a world-leading centre for excellence in barley. The McKim research group is part of the Division of Plant Sciences within the College of Life Sciences (CLS), University of Dundee.
