A post-doctoral Research Associate
(GS-11/12) position is available at the
USDA-ARS National Small
Grains Germplasm Research Facility located in
Aberdeen, ID USA.
Funding is available for at least two years, with
extension to
four years total possible based on availability of funds and
on
performance. It is restricted to U.S. citizens who have
received their Ph.
D. within the last four years; exceptions to
the latter restriction may be
granted in certain instances.
The
assignment is to: 1) identify conserved regions of Fusarium
genes
critical for virulence; 2) construct vectors encoding dsRNA
against such
genes and use them to transform Fusarium; 3) assess
the effects of each
vector on fungal growth and mycotoxin
production; and 4) modify fungal
transformation vectors with
activity against Fusarium for use in
Agrobacterium-mediated
transformation of barley.
The position requires a Ph.D. in
molecular biology, molecular genetics,
plant pathology, genetics,
or a related field. Knowledge of current methods
of genomic
analysis, vector construction and transformation (plant, animal,
or
fungi), and/or gene expression regulation is required, including
current
techniques related to conducting such
research.
