Thank you for thinking of GrainGenes for your probe request.
The GrainGenes site has been distributing probes for about
eight years. Through most of this time there has been no
charge for the clones. For the last several years the clones
were distributed with the understanding that at some future
point a fee would be charged and receiving laboratories
would receive a bill to cover clone maintenance and mailing.
Such a system has not been successfully established, and the GrainGenes project is no longer able to support the associated costs. There has been a considerable increase in the number of clones and ESTs over the last few years, and likewise, there has been an increasing demand for clones and ESTs.
A temporary solution is in the works to assist in the
distribution of clones and ESTs. Once arrangements are
finalized, updated information will be posted at the
GrainGenes web site to outline the new arrangements. When
such arrangements are in place, information will be posted
and a announcement will be sent out to the GrainGenes mailing
list with contact information.
