THE ROLE
The Field Technician position assists the Field Operations Lead to perform all field related duties, including:
• Field selection and prep, including soil sampling
• Sowing operations
• Field and crop management, including pesticide application via chemical spraying
• Harvest operations
• Equipment maintenance
• Transport operations (of machinery, grain samples, fertiliser, chemicals etc)
• Water and irrigation management
• Data collection and management, including environmental, yield and GPS data.
• Use of GPS systems
In the performance of these duties, the field technician will be required to work extensively at the Wundowie farm, involving a fair amount of travel. They will also be required to operate agricultural machinery (tractors, spray rigs, harvesters, trucks), and will need to
FIELD TECHNICIAN possess or obtain the relevant licenses for these activities on public roads (MR or higher).
Chemical application and handling will regularly be required, and all relevant training and qualifications should be obtained. A good understanding of agronomy and current farming practice is highly desirable and may need to be developed through independent study or courses.
The field technician will also be expected to perform duties under the supervision of warehouse staff to aid at busy time such as seed preparation, harvest prep etc.
SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Passion for Australian Agriculture.
2. Exceptional attention to detail, as well as planning, organization and time management skills
3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
4. The ability to work independently and as part of a team, as well as demonstrated leadership experience.
5. A proven ability to learn quickly on the job, and self motivated to meet specific goals and objectives within strict deadlines.
6. Experience handling and applying agricultural chemicals an advantage
7. Current manual driver’s license (heavier classes an advantage, as the successful applicant may be required to obtain at least a Medium Rigid license) and Australian citizenship or immigration status to be legally employed in Australia.
