This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, National Program Staff, Crop Production and Protection Unit in Beltsville, MD.
In this position, you will be providing leadership and direction to the ARS National Plant Germplasm System, comprising plant genetic resource management, genetic enhancement and applied research programs related to plant genetic resource conservation and sustainable use of 200+ crops from 16,000+ species.
Duties
- Providing leadership for a balanced program of acquiring, maintaining, evaluating, and releasing plant genetic resources, and conducted genetic enhancement/prebreeding research.
- Working with line managers to assure that field operating plans reflect priorities and policies for plant genetic resource management, genetic enhancement, and applied research.
- Updating programs for plant genetic resources, genomics, and genetic improvement to reflect changes in national priorities and policies.
- Identifying plant genetic resources, information, and research needs of user groups, including action agencies, and provide recommendations to leadership for planning changes necessary to respond to needs.
- Serving as a member of an interdisciplinary team charged with examining the impact that various funding levels would have on programs.
- Coordinating program strategic planning including the application of genome sequence information.
Salary
$163,964 - $191,900 per year.
