Research Geneticist (Research Associate) in Oat Genotyping/Phenotyping at USDA-ARS in Fargo, North Dakota, USA

(GS-11, salary range $64,649 to $100,739): The Cereal Crops Research Unit at the Eduard T. Schafer Agricultural Research Center in Fargo, ND is seeking a temporary, full-time Research Geneticist (Postdoc). The goal of the position is to investigate connections between genotypes and phenotypes in oat. Specifically, the incumbent will conduct research to identify gene regions that are associated with performance traits and develop high throughput markers to accelerate germplasm improvement efforts. This position requires a recent Ph.D. in plant science, breeding, genetics, or a related field. Knowledge of current methods used in plant genetics, including techniques used in molecular genetics, plant breeding, genomics, bioinformatics, statistics and biochemistry is highly desirable. Preferred candidates will be proficient in at least one programming language (python, R, perl, etc), and have experience with small grainsHi breeding. The incumbent will work in the Fargo small grains genotyping laboratory within the Cereals Crop Research Unit. The unit has excellent research facilities on the North Dakota State University campus and is comprised of about sixty personnel (twelve scientists) working to improve quality and disease resistance of small grains through research on genetics, genomics, pathology, and end-use quality.
