The Department of Crop and Soil Sciences (CSS) in the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resources Sciences (CAHNRS) at Washington State University (WSU) seeks a dynamic, motivated, problem-solving leader to join an extraordinary team of research and extension faculty members in dryland crop agronomy for eastern Washington State. We are seeking to fill a 12-month, tenure-track (assistant professor rank) position beginning on or about February 1, 2019. The incumbent will lead an integrated and collaborative research program in dryland crop agronomy, participate as a member of the Extension Dryland Cropping Systems Team (smallgrains.wsu.edu/meet-the-team), teach one course per year in plant science and/or cropping systems, and train graduate students in CSS graduate degree programs. A primary position responsibility is to lead an extensive and historically well-supported, field-based variety testing program for cereal grains and other relevant crops appropriate for the dryland cropping systems of eastern Washington. Required Qualifications: Earned Ph.D. degree in an applied plant science (Agronomy, Weed Science, Plant Pathology, Horticulture, or Plant Breeding) with sufficient depth in the discipline to understand and address dryland crop performance; Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with technical and nontechnical audiences using oral and written forms; and Experience in field research with a variety of crops, including ability to perform efficient field research (plot establishment, maintenance, data collection, and analysis).
