The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Crop Improvements and Genetics Research Unit in Albany, California, is seeking a permanent, full-time, Research Leader. The CIGRU conducts research that integrates genetics, biochemistry, genomics, proteomics and molecular approaches to enhance agronomic performance and end uses of crop plants. Current research in the Unit includes: improving wheat quality under variable environmental conditions through understanding the genetic networks that influence its end-use properties; facilitating access to the heterogeneous knowledge base that exists for wheat and its close relatives; developing technology that enables the precise genetic improvement of plants; and engineering durable sources of resistance to important pathogens. This position is interdisciplinary and can be filled in one of the following job series: Supervisory Research Molecular Biologist GS-0401-14/15, Supervisory Research Biologist (Computational) GS-0401-14/15, Supervisory Research Plant Physiologist GS-0435-14/15, Supervisory Research Geneticist GS-0440-14/15. Final grade level will be determined by a peer review panel.
