Two alpha-Amy loci not listed in the Catalogue of Gene Symbols for Wheat (9441), namely, Amy 6D2 and Amy 7B2, were reported (761). No variation was observed for their products, although nullisomic analysis located the genes in 6DL and 7B, respectively. In accordance with wheat genetic nomenclature guidelines, these genes are assumed to be part of the alpha-Amy-D1 and alpha-Amy-B2 loci, respectively.
A set of alpha-amylase genes, X_alpha-Amy-5 [alpha-Amy3] has been identified in 5A, 5B and 5D by cross-hybridization with alpha-Amy-1 and alpha-Amy-2 probes (62). Only one gene copy appears to be present at each locus.
Evidence has been obtained for three alpha-Amy-3 genes, in addition to alpha-Amy-1 and alpha-Amy-2 genes, in rye (650).
