Abstract
Synthesis of specific proteins of barley leaves which are known to be induced upon exogenous addition or stress-mediated endogenous rise of jasmonates can be inhibited by the terpenoid compound ursolic acid As shown by immuno-blot or Northern blot analysis, stress-induced synthesis of proteins and accumulation of their corresponding transcripts was decreased by ursolic acid in a concentration-dependent fashion Correspondingly, a decline of endogenous jasmonates occurred Our results support a stress-induced lipid-based signalling pathway via jasmonate, leading to altered gene expression Inhibitory effects of ursolic acid on stress-induced synthesis of abscisic acid are discussed.
