Tan Spot
ReferenceFaris JD et al. (1997) RFLP mapping of resistance to chlorosis induction by Pyrenophora tritici-repentis in wheat. Theoretical and Applied Genetics 94:98-103.
Trials were conducted in 1994 and 1995, all under greenhouse conditions. Seedlings at the third leaf stage were inoculated in a settling tower with Pyrenophora tritici-repentis isolate Pti2 at a conidia concentration of 3000 spores/ml.
This isolate is (nec+ chl+), which means it is an inducer of tan necrosis and extensive chlorosis. This population segregated for resistance to chlorosis only. The entire population, including both parents, was resistant to tan necrosis.
Plants were scored for reaction to tan spot in two ways: lesion type and percent leaf area diseased. The data are the means of six replicate inoculations, three in 1994 and three in 1995.
Lesion types were rated on a scale from 1 to 5 with 1 being the most resistant and 5 being the most susceptible.
Parental Description
Altar84/Ae. squarrosa (219) CIGM86.940Lesion type = 1.2; Percent disease = 5
Opata M 85Lesion type = 4.2; Percent disease = 45
