A Database for Triticeae and Avena
Bent Skovmand, CIMMYT, Mexico.
The last up-date to the list of abbreviations was published
in volume 44 of the Annual Wheat Newsletter. This listing
includes abbreviations assigned since that date. We would appreciate
receiving any information concerning new cultivars; including
name, pedigree, abbreviation, selection history, growth habit,
origin and year of release. Additions or corrections to the present
list also would be appreciated.
A complete listing of wheat cultivar abbreviations is available
from the CIMMYT Wheat Program in the GRIP II package (Genetic
Resources Information Package for Triticum and related
species). GRIP II can be found on a recently released CD-Rom,
entitled 'Tools for the new millenium' (Skovmand B, Mackay MC,
Lopez C, and McNab A eds). CIMMYT, Mexico, D.F.
This compact disk contains the following data-bases:
Grip II collates cultivar names, abbreviations, and pedigree
information for more than 100,000 wheats. The Gibler Wheat Data
Collection contains wheat information collected by John Gibler
during his 50-year career. IWIS (International Wheat Information
System) is a system that manages and integrates information pertaining
to bread wheat, durum wheat and triticale. The IWIS-Bib is a
supplement to IWIS; each record in IWIS-Bib identifies a publication
and each publication describes a wheat cultivar.
These information tools are published on diskette and CD-ROM,
respectively. Readers interested in obtaining them should contact
the CIMMYT Wheat Program.
