1. Globe-shaped grain, (glo)-mutations.

Three additional mutants have been identified:

glo 13, recessive mutant from mutagenic treatment of cultivar Bonus, received from U. Lundqvist, Svalöf; globe-shaped grain

glo 15, recessive mutant from mutagenic treatment of cultivar Foma, received from U. Lundqvist, Svalöf; globe-shaped grain

1786-67, recessive mutant from X-ray treatment of cultivar Proctor; globe-shaped grain.

Crosses with a translocation tester set indicated localization of mutant glo 13 on chromosome 2, glo 15 on chromosome 5, 1786/67 on chromosome 7.

F2 results from test crosses with glo mutants from different loci:

Independent segregation of all test crosses between glo 15 and other mutant lines representing known glo loci as well as the results of crosses with the translocation tester set indicate the mutant effect of another gene (glo-e) located on chromosome 5.

2. Necrotic leaf spotting (nec-) mutations.

Prof. Takahashi supplied seeds of a nec-mutant (nec B1) which originated from Minnesota (Prof. Burnham). F2 segregation in crosses with the translocation tester set indicated dominant inheritance but low expressivity in hybrid plants and localization on chromosome 3.

F2 segregation from test crosses with recessive nec-mutants indicated independent inheritance with mutants 1339/62 and 1558/74, both of which are located on chromosome 6 as is known from earlier studies. Two other crosses with mutants 728/63 and HLN48 indicated linkage in the coupling phase. Since both of these mutants are located on chromosome 3 and independent segregation between them has been demonstrated in earlier crosses, the conclusion seems justified, that the dominant nec-B1 responsible is located on chromosome 3 between two other nec-loci which inherit other forms of necrotic leaf spotting on a recessive basis.
