IV. 4. Coordinator's report: Chromosome 3.

Ryuhei Takahashi, Institute for Agricultural and Biological Sciences, Okayama University, Kurashiki 710, Japan.

Fischbeck and Hauser have located three genes on chromosome 3 by use of three interchanges, T 2-3f, T 3-7c and T 3-7d. One of them is gran-a for a small kernel character involved in a mutant 1024/65, which was later indicated to be on the short arm of chromosome 3 by a further test with Tsuchiya's telotrisomic 3 S. Two other genes are those for leaf spotting mutants, 728/63 and HLN EP71-48. A mutal cross between these two indicated that they were independently inherited with each other.

Moriya and Takahashi (1980) added to this linkage group two more genes, sca for short, crooked awn and wst,,j for white stripe. According to their data, the gene sca is very closely located with al and inferred to locate between yst-2 and Rh. The gene wst,,j was found to be on the opposite side of al as seen from uz, and judging from the hitherto established linkage map for chromosome 3, its location might be between rnt* and Yd2.
