Inheritance:
Dominant over normal (14).
Weak linkage indications to chromosome 7 and perhaps also to 6 (15).
The mutant line probably also has anothe~ gene very like lax 235 (14).
Description:
Spike internodes about 12% longer than normal.
Relatively early maturing plants with dark-green leaves, dry spikes yellowish, some sterile florets and thin, angular grain (13).
Origin of mutant:
1962 after resting Foma seed treated with propy1methanesulfonate: 0.33% x 24 hours.

lax-jf253, -jf254, -jf255.
Mutant used for description and seed stock:
lax-jf255 in Foma.
