    2. A motion was passed that the Committee recommend the use of Ml as the designation of genes for resistance to powdery mildew.

    3. R. T. Ramage and T. Tsuchiya and T. E. Haus (represented by T. Tsuchiya) agreed to continue as editors of the Barley Genetics Newsletter, since AMBA has agreed to fund the publication of that newsletter. Camera-ready manuscripts need to be submitted for the newsletter. The North American Barley Workers will be requested to apppoint indi- viduals to replace Haus, Ramage and Tsuchiya as editors of the Barley Genetics Newsletter at their meeting in August, 1987.

    4. T. Tsuchiya requested that he be replaced as overall chairman responsible for the Chromosome/Linkage Groups and Collections. Those present accepted Dr. Tsuchiya's resignation and expressed their appreciation for the outstanding job and services that he has done for barley workers world-wide. Udda Lundqvist accepted the appointment as overall chairman for the Chromosome/Linkage Groups and Collections.

    5. The inadequate dissemination of the large amounts of documented genetic information on Barley Genetic Stocks and the availability of those stocks was discussed. The following recommendations were made.

      1. All coordinators should prepare an annual report for the barley genetic newsletter.

      2. Udda Lundqvist agreed to coordinate the assembling of information on linkage groups and genetic stock collections and arrange for publishing that information in Hereditas.

      3. R. A. Nilan agreed to assemble the high- lights of the Fifth Barley Genetic Symposium. This summary will be published in many journals to inform "the world" about progress in barley genetics and related areas, the value of barley as an experi- mental organism, and new trends in barley for use as food, fiber and scientific investigations.

      4. The participants agreed that this discussion was extremely important and needed and that action must be taken. They agreed to cooperate in improving the dissemination of information regarding the value of the genetic information and availability of genetic stocks and collections for basic and developmental research and for many other purposes.
